Salma Hayek: Ever since the actress got an Oscar nomination for her work in Frida, a film she also produced, offers for her to star in movie and television projects have been pouring in. She and Penelope Cruz will be heading to Mexico next month to begin filming the comic western Bandidas for 20th Century Fox. Before Hayek slips across the border, she'll spend time with her own Ventanarosa Productions to turn the Spanish language hit "Yo Soy Betty La Fea" into an American format suitable for airing by ABC as an hour-long series. The popular Columbian telenovela centers around the exploits of a unattractive secretary in the fashion industry who has the hots for her handsome boss. Beatriz Pinzon, the actress who played Betty, was described by one South American writer as an ugly woman with greasy hair, horn-rimmed glasses and braces on her teeth. If Hayek stars in the ABC series, the makeup department will have to work overtime to make her look the part.

Pamela Anderson: Speaking of ugly women, a lot of men who need to know right now what day of the week falls on February 11, 2005 will be able to find the answer to that question for less than twenty bucks. Anderson's 2005 swimsuit calendar goes on sale today all over America in retail stores like Borders, Barnes & Noble and Waldenbooks. The photographs of the actress were taken by Playboy photographer Steve Wayda while she played under the sun on white sand beaches in Santa Barbara and Malibu. If you are wondering what day of the week falls on February 11 next year, it's Friday. I just saved you some money, so why buy the calendar? Silly question.

Steve Edwards: The main behind the desk for Fox's hit syndication chat program Good Day Live will need to buy a lot of roses and candy for his newest co-host, Debbie Matenopoulos, who joined the show less than one month ago. Matenopoulos was injured yesterday while filming a segment about the Los Angeles Fire Department at Station 11. According to the show's press release about the incident, she landed incorrectly on a landing airbag after a practice fall from a three-story building and was rushed immediately to a nearby hospital to be treated for a possible concussion and head trauma. A Fox spokesperson said that she is expected to make a full recovery.

Christine Lahti: The WB announced yesterday that the actress will have more time to raise a future President of the United States. Jack & Bobby, the fictional series about a single mother with two boys, one of whom will grow up to be the leader of the free world, was given a full season order for twenty-two episodes. David Janollari, The WB's Entertainment President, said of the series, "It's a beautifully written, sophisticated show," and viewers seem to agree with him. By the time this one ends it runs, the actors who play the sons, Matthew Long and Logan Lerman, will be big stars with huge bank accounts.

Barbra Streisand: And while thinking about presidential matters, it's appropriate to point out that the super star singer has been thinking about them a little too much to suit some internet travelers. Her official internet home features a long statement by Streisand titled "Where Is Our Free Press?" that is not too flattering to the Bush administration. She opens with, "if you cross this administration, you get your head handed to you." The rest of the warning message details a series of recent events that Streisand believes proves that White House critics have been mistreated by government officials because of their public statements about Bush. It will be interesting to find out how many IRS agents get assigned this week to investigate her tax records for the last gazillion years.

Sean Connery: The original onscreen 007 may be ready to retire, or so say reporters in Europe and for Daily Variety who think that Connery is ready to give up on the movie business because of the problems associated with making big budget movies that often cost hundreds of millions of dollars to produce and market. When he passed up a $17 million dollar check to star in Josiah's Canon for Fox, people assumed that it was his way of telling industry executives that they are out of their minds. If the 74-year-old Scottish actor really thinks that money has ruined the movie industry, he should remember that his big budget, special effects heavy Bond flicks like Goldfinger helped create the financial monsters that rule today.
